Digital business card maker: a card, a QR and a .vcf file
A digital business card is three things working together: a page someone can open, a QR code that opens it, and a contact file their phone can save. All three, from one form.

Most digital business card products are one thing pretending to be three. A card is only useful when all three parts are present.

Skip the vCard and the person has your card open in a browser tab they will close. Skip the QR and they are typing a URL off a screen. All three or it is a web page with a photo on it.
The QR is what makes it survive print
A QR code that encodes a short link keeps working when the details behind it change. That is the entire argument for putting a card behind a redirect rather than encoding contact details straight into the QR itself.
A static contact QR freezes your phone number in ink. Change jobs and every printed card is wrong. A QR pointing at a card URL is edited once and every card already in a wallet updates with it.
There is a second, less obvious reason: a short URL makes a smaller QR. Fewer characters means fewer modules, which means larger squares at the same printed size, which means it scans from further away and in worse light. A 10-character link is a materially easier scan than a 40-character one.
The reveal step
The awkward part of a card that lives at a public URL is the phone number on it. A card can keep the number hidden until the viewer enters their own number and confirms a one-time code. It slows down a genuine contact by fifteen seconds and stops the number being scraped by everything else.

What makes a digital business card better than a paper one?
The details can change after it is handed over, and the person on the other end can save you to their contacts in one tap instead of typing. A paper card that is out of date is landfill. A digital one is edited once and every printed QR pointing at it keeps working.
Do I need an app to use one?
No, on either side. The card is a web page and the QR opens it in whatever browser the phone already has. Saving the contact uses a .vcf file, which iOS and Android have both handled natively for years.
How many card designs are there?

Can I hide my phone number?
